An electric forklift would also be ideal if you’re looking to lower your carbon footprint or if you simply wish to keep your workers safe from harmful emissions when operating a forklift indoors. LPG forklifts would also be perfect if you’re wanting to be more environmentally-friendly.

Do I have someone trained to use the forklift?
The safety of your employees should be your number one priority, which is why it’s vitally important that those who will be operating the forklift are expertly trained to do so. If you don’t have anyone onsite who is trained to drive the vehicles, then there won’t be much point hiring one in the first place. Make sure you already have the certified and registered staff you need before committing to hiring any forklift.
How long do I need the forklift for?
This will depend on the industry you work in because construction projects might take considerably longer than a simple order picking and distribution operation. Calculate how long it will take you, approximately, to get the job done – this is usually a good way to estimate how long you’ll need the machine for. What happens if my forklift breaks down?
This is one of the most important questions you should ask before looking to rent a forklift. The forklift rental company should replace the forklift if it breaks down and at no extra cost, either. If they aren’t prepared to replace the machine entirely, then they should at least promise to repair the vehicle properly and those conditions should be clearly stated in the contract you sign. If the forklift rental company isn’t willing to do either of those things, then it’s best to choose an alternative company.
Where will I be operating the forklift?
We’ve already touched on this briefly, but you’ll need to think about where the forklift will be most used. Will you operate the forklift solely inside, indoors and outdoors or just outdoors? Is the terrain particularly rough or loose or is it smooth and flat?
For example, if you need the machine to operate both inside and outside, then an LPG forklift would be better. However, if the forklift is solely for indoor use, then an electric forklift would be ideal. Although, a diesel forklift is perfect for outdoor use or for navigating around rough, loose or uneven surfaces.
